Welcome to DRAWING 101. The objective here is to help you build a solid and everlasting drawing foundation.
It will also give you the confidence, personal satisfaction, and appreciation needed to make your drawing experience more enjoyable. -TAo!

Lesson 1- SEEING FIRST

It is extremely important for you as an artist to have a clear understanding of what it is you are drawing first before you start putting down that pencil onto the paper.

One way of helping you do this is called: CONSTURCTION.

THE IMPORTANCE OF CONSTRUCTION:
Generally all objects or character have some sort of SHAPE or FORM.
Try visualizing an object's construction by peeling away all the details and leaving only the object's FRAME WORK or skeletal structure.

CONSTRUCTION helps you do 3 important things when drawing:
1- Makes the drawing look SOLID.
2- Makes the drawing look DEMENSIONAL.
3- Makes it EASIER for you to redraw the same object over and over again.

Here are some advantages for constructing out your drawings:
1- You can create a SOLID and ACCURATE drawing.
2- You can ANIMATE or ROTATE an object.
3- You can solve difficult forshortening and other perspective angles.
4- Finally you add DEMENSION to the drawing. (Demension= Height, Width, Depth)

HHere's an example of an object rotating in space:

Final notes and comments:

Be sure to ALWAYS construct out your drawings. Get in a good habit of doing this so that you don't get sloppy with your drawings.
If you are just starting out as an artist- I suggest you go to Lesson 2 and start practicing drawing simple geometric shapes.
Then on to constructing simple objects around the house, like a TV, or a car for an example. Forget about details for now and focus on seeing an object's framework. This is a start and my advice to becoming a better artist.

That's it for Lesson 1.
